about
The RDS team is led by Bonnie Roots. Bonnie has been involved in the teaching of young people for many years and is passionate about creating a community for young people which allows them the embodiment of creativity at its heart. Her team aims to deliver opportunities for young people to obtain their aspirations.

RDS embodies a dance community, where everyone is nurtured to fulfil their potential. The RDS team aim to infuse the magic of dance into young people by using creativity, fun and inspiration.

By creating a positive experience we nurture young talent, enabling them to set and obtain high standards of achievement.

Each student gets individual attention within the class setting. Students are continually assessed to ensure they are progressing at a pace that matches their ability.

We encourage access for all and operate an inclusive policy offering a range of exam routes that cater for each individual need and physical ability.

Dr. Jessica Hartley
BA, MA, PGCE, PhD, SFHEA

After a successful career as a secondary school teacher, Jessica ‘risked everything’ to run away with the circus. This led to years working freelance as an educator, director and performer for companies such as Tara Arts, The Why Not Institute and Unclaimed Creatures. Jessica was shortlisted for the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust award on 4 occasions between 2001 and 2006 and finally secured an Elsie Fogerty Scholarship in 2006 for Doctoral Study into Risk and Pedagogy at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Alongside this, she worked with GCSE examinations as a Senior Examiner and Moderator; and consulted with circus schools in the creation of circus curricula.

Jessica became a Lecturer on MA Actor Training and Coaching at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2014, and supports various courses through an engagement with Teaching and Learning, Critical Frameworks and Research Methods.

Jessica's practice involves directing, education work, production management and stage management. Select examples include: 2009-present.
